The Point to Keep Ranchus

* Feel free to ask Jinchu-kai about the detail of how to keep ranchus.

1.Water to use
Tap water and well water are recommended. (To secure fixed water.)
When using tap water, remove chlorine.
When removing chlorine in Yokohama, put two pieces of hypo (Na2S2O3)sold at a shop in a standard glass fish tank of 60 liters.
If put too many pieces of hypo, ranchus die from lack of oxygen.
2.When changing water
Think how ranchus feel about changing water.(Ranchus also catch a cold!)
Because the temperature of ranchus are not steady, a rapid change of water temperature causes disease.
Change water in the morning of a fine day.(Ranchus are the temperate fish.)
Choose a fish tank possible to keep a change of water temperature in one day within five degrees.
If a fish tank is small, or if keeping ranchus in a place of shorter daylight hours, use such as a thermostat to keep water temperature steady not to make it cold.
3. Supplying oxygen
Supply oxygen using an air pump. (Oxygen is very thin in water compared to that in the air.)
Rotten water due to too much fishbait, or high water temperature during summer decrease oxygen in water and make ranchus blub-blub.
4. Fishbait
Do not give too much fishbait. (This pollutes water and could be the cause of death due to lack of oxygen.)
Ranchus do not die without fishbait for 1-2 weeks.
If giving fishbait properly, microbes and waterweeds clean the water in a tank.
Give raw and compound fisbait, both fresh!
Moldy, rotten, or worm-eaten fishbait cause ranchus enteritis.
5.Disease of ranchus
Master first aid with salt. (Possible to cure most of the diseases with salt.)
Salt helps ranchus to breathe and reduces some harmful insects and bacteria.
Use 70 grams of salt to 10 liters of water.

Ask a proper treatment to the expert. (Experts can tell proper use of medicine.)

Procedure in processing with concentrated salt (regular salt)

1)Prepare two washbasins (about 50cm in diameter).
Set them to pump the air into one of them.
2)Prepare one of the washbasins as follows:
Filtered water 10 lit(* 1) +Regular salt 500g(* 2) = 5%
* 1 10 liters of water after adjusted the temperature and filtered. (Filtered water means the water extracted chlorine.)
* 2 Never use table salt. (Always use regular salt.)
* Get the habit of measuring salt using a "scale".
3)Prepare the filtered water (with the temperature adjusted and chlorine extracted), 80% of the other washbasin.
Pump the air into it adjusting strength properly.
4)Put one ranchu to be treated with concentrated salt in the washbasin 2), and let it swim freely for 90 seconds.
Be sure to check the time with a watch during this treatment.
5)After 90 seconds passed, take out the ranchu and put it into the other washbasin of filtered water.
6)When the ranchu began to swim as usual after some time, put it back to the pond where you keep. Or put the ranchu in a medicinal bathing tank suitable for its symptom and give it proper medicinal bathing.

* Giving the treatment with concentrated salt (regular salt) is effective for curing a sick ranchu and regularly preventing from getting a disease.
Also effective when newly brought a ranchu, or when brought back home after putting together with other ranchus at a competitive show or a study meeting.

How to carry ranchus

1) Jinchu-kai recommends adouble square plastic bagto keep ranchus.
* Double square plastic bags are sold at a pet shop belonging to Jinchu-kai.
2) A thick styrofoam box is useful for carrying ranchus put in a double square plastic bag.
* Use a styrofoam box of which the inside diameter fits the bottom of a double square plastic bag.
* It is possible to get a styrofoam box at a supermarket, etc.
3)After poured the filtered water in a double square plastic bag,be sure to pull and smooth out the lines on the bottom of the bag, then put ranchus.
This prevents from hurting ranchus while carrying.
4) The ideal way of carrying ranchus is to have an oxygen cylinder always, pour oxygen into the bag, seal it with such as a rubber band, and keep it as bright as possible.
* Oxygen cylinders are sold at a pet shop belonging to Jinchu-kai.
5) The ideal water to use when carrying rachus is the one in use at home if the condition is good. Use the filtered water as good as possible.
